In Myanmar, pulses and beans constitute about 33% of the country’s agricultural products, making them the second-most cultivated crops. Among these, black beans, mung beans, and pigeon peas account for approximately 72% of total pulse production and are the leading export varieties. Consequently, mung beans are a significant export crop for Myanmar. Currently, mung beans are exported to China and EU countries through maritime routes and border trade. According to recent data, mung bean exports have reached $336.894 million in the 2023-2024 financial year.
The Myanmar-based United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and its development partners have designed a guidebook as part of an agricultural education program, focusing on mung bean production and pest control for Myanmar mung bean farmers.
In collaboration with United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and Myanmar Microfinance Association (MMFA), SATHAPANA Limited has distributed the guidebooks to approximately 3,900 clients who are mung bean farmers across various regions and states.
