Report to: Deputy Head of Internal Audit Department

Position Summary

Perform as managerial level in internal auditing work by maintaining all organizational and professional ethical standard and work independently. The role will directly responsible for field and back office auditing, and also assist staffs, and providing good recommendations to development of the annual internal audit plan; all with emphasis on a risk-based approach designed to assist management in the attainment of their objectives. Provide training, coaching and supervision to internal audit staffs.

Duties and Responsibilities of Internal Audit Unit Manager (Field & Back Office)

  • Assist (deputy) head of internal audit to develop a flexible risk-based audit plan for each branch or department on a review of previous audit finding reports, internal and external evaluations, management guidance before going to audit the branches or departments.
  • Assist in the investigation of significant suspected fraudulent activities within SPNM and perform any special audit assignments and provide assistance as requested by management and the board and report to them the result.
  • review system loan listing report of the respective branches monthly and select samples to check the customer CID files and loan documents by using several sampling techniques stated in internal audit policy before auditing branches.
  • visit customer’s houses based on the daily action plans of the branches and audit findings of the loan documents checking to interview with customers and observe the performances of branch management teams;
  • review general ledger and trial balance of the respective branches monthly and select samples to check cash disbursement voucher, cash receipt voucher, journal voucher by using several sampling techniques stated in internal audit policy before auditing branches.
    • Coordinate in audit efforts with other units of the internal audit department.
  • Developing audit objectives, plans, and scope consistent with the department’s charter, business objectives, the assessment of audit risk, client needs, and the audit needs/priorities communicates by the audit committee.
  • Scheduling audits, determining the resources that are necessary, and seeing that the approved audit plan is accomplished to the extent staffing allows.
  • Communicating with those who need to know about audits and interfacing with personnel throughout the organization, particularly those being audited, to resolve audit issues and achieve the desired improvement actions.
  • Direct involve and participate in actual fieldworks at branch audit from time to time to insure quality of work are procedures.
  • Supervising audits and reviewing the work performed to ensure the adequacy of audit scope, the adequacy of testing performed, and the accuracy of conclusions reached. Also keeping manager informed regarding the status of audits in progress.
  • Evaluating auditor performance, providing on-the-job training and counseling auditors to strengthen the person’s knowledge/skills/development.
  • Developing and maintaining productivity, staff, and management relationships through individual contacts and group meetings.
  • Reviewing/editing individual branch audit reports and provide recommendations for ultimately improvement actions.
  • Presenting and communicate audit finding at the audit and drafting local manager responses in the audit report.
  • Conduct surprise field visits branches as per audit plan or directed by audit manager.
  • Facilitating the audit process by resolving issues and staff questions during the day-to-day progress of audits with respect to efficiency and effectiveness of operation.
  • Performing other related work as assigned.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 Manager of Internal Audit department should possess the following characteristics:

  1. Master or Bachelor degree in accounting/business administration/Economics or related field.
  2. CPA/CIA/ACCA/CIMA is preferred.
  3. 3 year experiences in internal audit/external audit/operation/ accounting Microfinance sector and 1 year in managerial level.
  4. Knowledge in applying internal auditing and accounting principles and practices, and management principal and preferred business practices.
  5. Considerable knowledge of the standard and code of ethics.
  6. Knowledge of contemporary risk management and control techniques and working knowledge of contemporary control frameworks.
  7. Working knowledge of control and risk self-assessment facilitation techniques.
  8. Considerable knowledge if industrial policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
  9. Familiarity with the common indicators of fraud.
  10. Considerable skill in negotiating issues and resolving problems.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with customers, co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and work effectively in a professional team environment.
  12. Honest and hardworking.
  13. Good in English, writing, speaking and reading.
  14. Flexible, work under pressure, travelling is challenging.
